Premio Mies van der Rohe para exalumnos de la Cátedra Cerámica
El pasado viernes 8 de mayo se dieron a conocer los ganadores de la última edición de los prestigiosos premios Mies van der Rohe en Barcelona, donde el estudio Arquitectura-G, integrado por Jonathan Arnabat (1977), Aitor Fuentes (1981), Igor Urdampilleta (1981) y Jordi Ayala (1975) se alzó con el premio al Talento Emergente (Emerging Architect Special Mention) por su Casa Luz de Cilleros (Cáceres). El jurado valoró la “simplicidad y claridad de los espacios”, así como su alta calidad ambiental y la paleta de colores utilizada.
Cabe resaltar que los cuatro integrantes de Arquitectura-G cursaron sus estudios de Arquitectura en la ESARQ de la Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), donde fueron alumnos de las primeras ediciones de la Cátedra de Cerámica de Ascer en Barcelona.
El proyecto por el que han recibido el premio, la “Casa Luz”, ganó el Premio Cerámica Ascer en la edición de 2013 en la categoría interiorismo. El jurado de los Premios Ascer -compuesto por los arquitectos Manuel Gallego, Ignacio García Pedrosa, Francisco Freire, Ramón Monfort; el periodista Luca Molinari; y el diseñador Tomás Alonso); valoró del proyecto “la solución arquitectónica de insertar un nuevo interior en un edificio existente, con una solución de vivienda elegante y sencilla.
La calidad del ambiente se consigue a través de la utilización muy precisa y coherente de la cerámica que le otorga calidez. La integración se logra mediante texturas y sistemas constructivos que establecen continuidad con la arquitectura prexistente”.

SOBRE LOS GALARDONES // El Premio de Arquitectura Contemporánea de la Unión Europea - Premio Mies van der Rohe o Premio Mies Van der Rohe es un premio de arquitectura concedido por la Unión Europea y la Fundación Mies van der Rohe de Barcelona cada 2 años desde 1988. Es el Premio de Arquitectura Contemporánea más importante de la Unión Europea.
Tanto las 420 obras nominadas, como las 5 finalistas y la del arquitecto emergente serán objeto de una publicación y de una exposición que será itinerante a nivel europeo e internacional durante 2015 y 2016.
European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award es un certamen bienal cuyo objetivo principal es el reconocer y elogiar la excelencia en el ámbito de la arquitectura y destacar la importante aportación de los profesionales europeos al desarrollo de nuevos conceptos y tecnologías. La primera edición se celebró en 1988; a partir del 2000 se premia también la obra de jóvenes profesionales con la Mención Especial Arquitecto Emergente y desde el 2001 el premio se ha convertido en el premio de arquitectura oficial de la Unión Europea.
THE NETWORK // As a result of the importance Ascer places on the professional working environment, which it endeavours to educate about ceramic tiles and their applications, the Association has since 2004 set up a series of Ceramic Tile studies departments at different Schools of Architecture in Spain and abroad.
Ascer's Network of Ceramic Tile Studies Departments
The Network of Ceramic Tile Studies Departments embodies the rapprochement and collaboration between Universities and the ceramic tile manufacturing sector and creates a community that delivers value all round, to the advantage of one of the basic tenets of Ascer’s thinking: innovation.
The Network of Ceramic Tile Studies Departments currently consists of the schools of Architecture in:
o Barcelona - Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura (ESARQ – Advanced School of Architecture) at the International University of Catalonia.
o Alicante - Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura (Advanced Technical School of Architecture) at the University of Alicante.
o Valencia - Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura (Advanced Technical School of Architecture) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
o Madrid - Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura (Advanced Technical School of Architecture) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
o Castellón - Escuela de Arquitectura Técnica (School for Architectural Technician) at the Jaume I University in Castellón.
As well as teaching their own students, the Ceramic Tile Studies Departments also educate and promote to a broader audience through lectures, visits, exhibitions and publishing material that fosters understanding of ceramic and the diversification of how it used in the field of architecture.
Tough not included in the Ceramic Tile Studies Departments, Ascer’s collaboration with the Universities of Darmstadt in Germany (since 2008) and Harvard (GSD) in the U.S. (since 2007) merits special mention. Darmstadt’s University includes the training workshop "Material Innovations: Ceramics" within the Sustainable Design and Construction Department, which is headed by prestigious architect and lecturer Manfred Hegger, winner of the Solar Decathlon Prize in Washington in 2007 and 2009.
In Harvard, two research projects have been undertaken that will analyse the industry in terms of customization and the sustainability of ceramic. Prestigious professors Christoph Reinhart and Martin Bechthold guide, in this case, students in the development of prototypes resulting from this research.
