La startup española Trucksters, operador de transporte tecnológico español basado en relevos de camiones, ofrecerá transporte de larga distancia 100% eléctrico en toda una ruta completa en el último semestre de 2023. Será, por lo tanto, el primer operador que cumpla con el objetivo de lograr las 0 emisiones. Previamente, en los primeros meses del próximo año ya operará con varios camiones eléctricos e irá aumentando su número con el transcurso de los sucesivos cuatrimestres.
Trucksters ya reduce en este momento en un 50% la circulación de camiones en vacío en comparación con la media de la industria gracias a su sistema de relevos y a la densidad de sus corredores por Europa. Uno de sus retos es acelerar la transición hacia un modelo de transporte por carretera de larga distancia sin emisiones, un tipo de servicio que representa el 40% del mercado de transporte total. Trucksters también aspira a aumentar la cuota modal del transporte por carretera frente al aéreo para, de esta forma, reducir en un 90% las emisiones a la atmósfera.
La compañía, que ya se encuentra en conversaciones avanzadas con fabricantes líderes en electrificación, continúa trabajando en desarrollar su plan de sostenibilidad con el que eliminar las emisiones de CO2 del transporte. Gracias al sistema de relevos que utiliza Trucksters, basado en Big Data e Inteligencia Artificial, la compañía tecnológica puede afrontar las tres grandes dificultades que afronta la electrificación del transporte de larga distancia; la reducida autonomía de las baterías, la lentitud de carga y la escasez de cargadores.
Reducción directa de las emisiones
Víctor Ortega, Head of Sustainability de Trucksters, destaca: “Nosotros trabajamos en eliminar directamente las emisiones de CO2, en lugar de en compensarlas. Nuestro objetivo es cambiar el modelo de negocio en el transporte de larga distancia, haciéndolo mucho más humano y sostenible gracias al sistema de relevos, por eso vamos a acelerar el uso de los camiones eléctricos en el sector sin esperar al futuro”.
La iniciativa de Trucksters se alinea con los objetivos del Plan “Fit for 55”, puesto en marcha por la Comisión Europea. Entre otras, esta normativa propone la obligación para los Estados miembros de garantizar la instalación de puntos de carga para camiones eléctricos a lo largo de la Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) de una potencia de 1.400 kW en 2025 y 3.500 kW en 2030, así como en todos los parkings vigilados exclusivos para camiones que hay en las carreteras del TEN-T.
Actualmente las necesidades específicas de recarga de los camiones eléctricos se clasifican en tres categorías: carga en depósito, carga en destino (como en centros de distribución) y carga pública (a lo largo de las carreteras o en centros de carga en áreas urbanas).
Trucksters permite que los transportistas puedan dormir más en sus casas. Los profesionales sólo conducen tramos de una ruta más larga y en ciertos puntos de relevo se intercambian los semirremolques para llevar la mercancía en dirección opuesta. Gracias a estos relevos su calidad de vida mejora, además de hacerlo también el servicio de transportes que perciben sus clientes, que es hasta dos veces más rápido que el tradicional y hasta cuatro veces más seguro. De hecho, la compañía acaba de crear un departamento exclusivo dedicado al bienestar de los conductores liderado por Alberto Agulló.
Con un sistema de transporte por carretera basado en Big Data e Inteligencia Artificial, la compañía española funciona como una aerolínea a través de corredores y es capaz de conseguir tiempos de transporte aéreo a precios de transporte terrestre. La propuesta de Trucksters, que el pasado mes de marzo consiguió una extensión de su ronda de inversión Serie A de 8M€, ya está siendo utilizada por más de 600 empresas de renombre españolas e internacionales como Kimberly Clark, el Grupo DPD, Amazon o Seur.

The company, who will be the first operator to meet the zero-emission target, will start with several electric trucks at the beginning of the year, and will increase the number of vehicles throughout the year.
Trucksters has reduced the number of empty trucks by 50% in comparison to the industry average, thanks to its relay system and the number of its corridors throughout Europe. One of the challenges for the company is to accelerate the transition to an emission-free long-distance road transport model, a type of service that represents 40% of the total transport market. Trucksters aims to increase the modal share of road transport compared to air transport in order to reduce atmospheric emissions by 90%
The company, which is already in detailed conversation with leading electrification manufacturers, continues to work on developing its sustainability plan to eliminate CO2 emissions from transport. Thanks to its AI and Big-Data based relay system, Trucksters can tackle the three major charllenges facing the electrification of long-distance transport: the reduced autonomy of the batteries, the slowness of charging and the shortage of chargers.
Direct emissions reduction
Victor Ortega, Head of Sustainability at Trucksters states: «We have been working on directly eliminating CO2 emissions, rather than offsetting them. Our aim is to change the business model in long-distance transport, making it much more people-friendly and sustainable using our relay system, which is why we are going to accelerate the application of electric trucks in the sector on our own initiatives”.
Trucksters’ leadership is in line with the objectives of the «Fit for 55» Plan, launched by the European Commission. Among others, this regulation proposes the obligation for Member States to ensure the installation of charging points for electric trucks along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) with a capacity of 1,400 kW by 2025 and 3,500 kW by 2030, as well as in all dedicated truck-only guarded car parks on TEN-T roads.
Currently, the specific charging needs of electric trucks fall into three categories: depot charging, destination charging (such as at distribution centres) and public charging (along roads or at charging centres in urban areas).
Improving the lives of lorry drivers
The Trucksters team works for a common goal of improving the living condition of truck drivers, such as enabling the drivers to sleep more at home. Thanks to Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, professionals only have to drive sections of a route instead of entire routes. Trucksters’ transport algorithm calculates the optimal point of exchange where the cargo can be picked up by another driver, who will then carry the goods to its next relay exchange point of destination. Thanks to these relays, the quality of life for the drivers has drastically improved. Furthermore, to consolidate its commitment in improving the working condition of the drivers, the company has just created an exclusive department dedicated to the well-being of professionals, led by Alberto Agulló.
With Trucksters relay-system, the company is able to offer faster, safer, and more cost-efficient transportation services, as the company is able to achieve air transport times at ground transport prices via their corridors. Trucksters’ proposal, which last March got an extension of its €8M Series A investment round, is already being used by more than 600 renowned Spanish and international companies such as Kimberly Clark, DPD Group, Amazon or Seur.
